Skrlik into playoffs in Swift Current
Calgary's Kayla Skrlik (photo: Curling Canada) qualified for playoffs with a win over Victoria's Kayla MacMillan at the RBC Dominion Securities Western Showdown in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

Skrlik, with Margot Flemming at third, Ashton Skrlik, and Geri-Lynn Ramsay on the front end, continue their dominant season on tour, qualifying for playoffs once again.
Skrlik started the season ranked 25th, but It has since become one of the hottest teams on tour, climbing to 11th on the Year-to-Date (YTD) season rankings.
They have played in ten events this season, qualifying for the playoffs in nine. However, they missed the playoffs in the Hearing Life Tier 2 Challenge back in October.
Skrlik faced Victoria Kayla MacMillan in the A Qualifier Friday afternoon, losing the opening draw to the button for the hammer.
The first end was all MacMillan until Skrlik made a perfect hit and roll on her first, forcing MacMillan to attempt a tough slash double for five, resulting in a steal of one for Skrlik. In the second end, MacMillan drew her deuce to the four foot.
Skrlik responded by drawing to the four foot for three points. Skrlik responded by forcing MacMillan to draw to the eight-foot limit for her single. Macmillan stole a single after missing a lightweight takeout for two.
MacMillan kept the pressure in the sixth end, stealing another point after Skrlik failed to make the hit-and-roll for one. Skrlik missed a tough nose tap to a very small piece of the button for her deuce, so she had to settle for her single. In the eighth end, MacMillan came up heavy on her tap to the pin, giving the 6-5 victory to Skrlik.
Skrlik defeated Ashley Thevenot (Saskatoon, SK) 8-4 in their opening game, then won 6-4 against Kaitlyn Lawes (Winnipeg, MB).
In the other A qualifier, Zurich's Xenia Schwaller defeated Traverse City's Delaney Strouse 7-2.
Their next game will be in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 10:15 am Mountain Time (MT).
