Jacobs Controls Opening Game

Edmonton's Brad Jacobs, with Marc Kennedy at third, Brett Gallant and Ben Hebert on the front end, look to continue their momentum in their last event of 2024.
Coming off a 2nd place finish at the Kioti National at the end of November, #5 world ranked, Jacobs will look to grab their second event win of the season in Swift Current Saskatchewan at the RBC Dominion Securities Western Showdown.
Jacobs took on Saskatoon's Dustin Kalthoff in their opening game, winning the opening game draw to the button for the hammer advantage.
The first end finished in a blank after a quarter-rock pick for Kalthoff to lose everything. Jacobs opened the scoring in the second end, bringing in their biter after hitting Kalthoff's open stone in the back 12 foot.
Jacobs left Kalthoff a tough double attempt to score two; Kalthoff elected to draw for his one instead, missing the eight-foot, giving Jacobs a steal of two. In the fourth end, a desperate Kalthoff tried a very thing double for a deuce, flashing this attempt, which resulted in handshakes and a 6-0 victory for Jacobs.
Jacobs will face Sudbury's John Epping on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. Mountain Time (MT) for a spot in the A qualifier game. They have faced Epping twice this season, splitting the decisions. They won their matchup at the Nufloors Penticton Curling Classing but lost the Henderson Metal Fall Classic.
