McEwen Brought the Magic in Opening Game

Mike McEwen, with Colton Flasch at third, Kevin Marsh and Daniel Marsh on the front end, continue their hot season on tour in front of a home province crowd.
#3 in the Year-to-Date (YTD) rankings have been impressive on tour through the first half of the season, grabbing two event wins at the Saville Shootout and the ATB Okotoks Classic.
They opened the RBC Dominion Securities Western Showdown with a matchup versus Edmonton's Evan Van Amsterdam, losing the opening draw to the button for the hammer advantage.
The first end consisted of an open end ending in a blank. McEwen applied pressure to the young team, forcing him to draw to the button for a single point. McEwen is forced to make a light-weight nose hit around a Van Amsterdam stone in the third end to score his single.
The fourth end started in favour of Van Amsterdam. A missed over-the-top double on his last resulted in a steal for McEwen. McEwen found momentum in the fifth, stealing another after a missed hit and roll by Van Amsterdam. McEwen added two more points after a missed draw to the button, continuing the steal train. He grabbed a 6-1 victory to open in Swift Current.
McEwen will face off against Duluth's Korey Dropkin on Saturday at 11:15 am Central Time (CT). These two teams played off against each other one other time this season, with McEwen taking it 8-3 at the Hearing Life Tour Challenge Tier 1.
