Mouat's Mighty Men March On Lloydminster

Scotland's Bruce Mouat Faces Saskatoon's Mike McEwen in the Astec Safety Challenge Semifinals on Saturday morning. Mouat, with Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan Jr continue to dominate play everywhere they go, so far undefeated through four games in their opening competition of 2025. Mouat took down a weary Reid Carruthers team in Friday's quarterfinals, 5-3 with the Winnipeg side playing their fourth game of the day after losing their first two game. Carruthers wont 8-3 over Ben Kiist on Thursday afternoon, then started their marathon day on Friday with a 6-4 win over Saskatoon's Trent Knapp, then dispatch Wouter Goesgens of the Netherlands, 8-3 to reach the C-Qualifier game where they won 6-5 over Jacob Libbus of Black Diamond. This resulted in a matchup with the game's best team right now, Mouat holding the #1-ranking on the World Curling Team Rankings and by a wide margin. Mouat opened the scoring with two in the first end, with Carruthers holding serve with two points of their own in the second end. After Mouat blanked the third end, they added another device in the fourth end to lead 4-2, then forcing Carruthers to a single as the exhaustion of the day started to creep in the Winnipeg side. Mouat added a single point in the sixth end to extend the lead to two, with Carruthers unable to generate any offense beyond that. A blank in the seventh end and Mouat running Carruthers out of rocks maintained the final at at 5-3. Mouat won 9-2 over Scott Manners of Edmonton in their opening game, then won 8-3 over Switzerland's Marco Hoesli to advance to an A-Qualifier game where they handily dispatched McEwen, 6-1. Mouat hits the ice Saturday morning in the semifinals in a rematch against McEwen, playing at the Lloydminster Curling Centre on the Saskatchewan side of the border at 10 am Mountain Time.
