Team Aaron Sluchinski (Calgary, AB) is in Leduc for the first Alberta Curling Series Event this year, reaching the playoff round Saturday after finishing with a 3-1 record.
The success so far a great to as Sluchinski debuts with a brand new player at third for this season, Jeremy Harty. Harty spent the last 8 years skipping his own team with long-time teammate Kyler Kleibrink.
Sluchinski mentioned his excitement about their new player. He stated "Jeremy has had quite a bit of success the last few years and fits in well with our group."
He hopes this new roster and hard work may lead to some slam invitations in the coming years.
In the afternoon draw, Sluchinski made a crucial draw in the fourth end, hitting the side of the button against four Epping counters. A steal of two the following end and then another in the sixth end had Sluchinski taking the game 6-1.
"Epping is in our pool and is a top calibre team, so it will be fun to play him, " Sluchinski stated ahead of the game.
Sluchinski wrapped up round-robin play with a 6-5 extra-end win over Jacob Libbus of Okotoks.
Sluchinski has already had some big curling moments, most notably in mixed doubles with partner Brittany Tran as two-time provincial champions. He also competed at the 2022 Brier as Team Bottcher's alternate.
Team Sluchinski started the weekend with a 5-4 win over Warren Cross (Edmonton, AB). Following that they lost 6-3 to Scott Webb (Sexsmith, AB).
Sluchinski faces Webb in a rematch in the semifinals, held Sunday at Noon MT. Karsten Sturmay is into the other semifinal match, awaiting the winner of a tiebreaker between Kleibrink and Libbus.
