Eun ji Gim (Uijeongbu, KOREA) has reached the Curling Stadium Alberta Curling Series semi-finals today at 12:00 pm MT. They face Edmonton’s Krysta Hilker contending for a spot in the final.
Gim finished the round robin with a record of 3-0 going into the semi-final game. Gim’s first game was against Lindsay Bertsch (Edmonton, AB), winning 6-5. Gim managed to take the first multiple-point end of the game in the 4th, and both teams traded 3’s in the following two ends. This put Team Gim up by one with hammer in the even ends, which eventually led to the one-point win in the 8th.
They followed that with a decisive win against Adele Purcell (St. Albert, AB), taking 3 points in the 3rd end and 4 points in the 5th. This led to an early finish for both teams as they prepared for the last round-robin game.
Gim saw their first non-Albertan team of the weekend, Isabelle Ladouceur of Waterloo, Ontario. Gim was able to hold their opponents to only 2 points up until the 7th end where Ladouceur finally took their first deuce. This was not enough to take back the game and Gim secured their spot in the semi-finals with this third win.
Not only was the team excited about their round-robin finish, but they were also able to celebrate two team members’ birthdays this weekend. Su ji Kim (second) and Ye eun Seol’s (lead) birthday’s landed Friday and Saturday, and winning games might just be the best present for a competitive curler.
Krysta Hilker finished the round robin 2-1, only dropping a game to Selena Sturmay. This placed them second in their pool under Sturmay, pushing them straight to the semi-finals against Gim. In the other semi-finals match, Sturmay faces Isabelle Ladouceur in. The finals will be played at 3:00pm MT. All live games can be found on curlingzone.com WATCH REPLAY: Gim vs Ladouceur
