By Frank Roch - FromTheHack.com Canadian curling legend Jennifer Jones and her new lineup consisting of the former Team Zacharias scored a convincing 10-1 win over 2020 Québec provincial champion Noémie Verreault on Sunday morning in a must-win game for the team after suffering their first loss as a team on Saturday evening. Team Jones and their opponents exchanged singles to open the game before the team from Winnipeg took over. A combined steal of seven points over the next three ends led to Team Verreault shaking hands, and perhaps their heads, after five ends. Team Jones has been proficient without the hammer in their first event of the season. In their first three games of the Summer Series event, the team has stolen eight ends for a combined 18 points including five steals of multiple points. As mentioned, the win on Sunday morning was a great rebound effort for Team Jones after they lost to Team Grandy in a tightly contested game on Saturday evening. Grandy, who many will remember as the 3rd for Allison Flaxey on a team that reached the 2017 Olympic Trials, is now skipping a team based out of Vancouver. Team Grandy took a 4-1 lead over Team Jones after three ends only to watch as Team Jones chipped away at the lead stealing singles in three consecutive ends to take a 5-4 lead heading into the last end. Team Jones looked to be set up for another steal in the 8th end before Clancy Grandy made a clutch double-takeout with the last stone for two points and a 6-5 victory. The win over Team Jones came on the heels of Team Grandy’s 6-2 loss to Team Duncan of Ontario earlier in the day in a game where Team Grandy could not really get anything going. Team Jones will wrap up their round-robin portion of the event on Sunday afternoon against Team Mann of Ottawa in a game that should have playoff implications.
