Team Edin (Niklas Edin, Oskar Eriksson, Rasmus Wrana, and Christoffer Sundgren) had a winning performance this weekend at the Oslo Cup in Norway. This event was the biggest on the Nordic Curling Tour, with 20 mens teams and 12 women's teams.
Team Edin kept the weekend simple, finishing 7-0 to take gold. This meant 20 tour points and 40,000 NOK in prize money.
They started the weekend with an 8-1 win against Hostmaelingen (NOR), followed by a 10-4 win against Westerberg (SWE). The team then saw Gosgens (NED) with a closer game at 5-4. Their semi-final game was a smooth win at 14-1 Bjoerke (NOR).
After the qualifying round, Edin rematched with Hostmaelingen, holding their ground with another win at 10-3.
The semi-final saw Team Ramsfjell of Lillehammer, Norway. Ramsfjell went undefeated in the qualifying, being handed their first loss of the weekend from Edin.
Headed to the final, Team Edin saw Steffen Walstad, a hometown squad from Oslo. According to curlingzone.com, these teams have seen each other 12 times in competitive games since 2016. Out of those 12 games, Edin has won 8 of those times. The last time these two played each other was at the 2022 Winter Olympics during the round robin in February.
In the first end, Walstad and Edin kept the game at single points for the first 4 ends. It was tied at 2-2 by the fourth, Team Edin with the hammer.
Edin then blanked the 5th and 6th end, before scoring a 3 in the 7th. Edin held their ground in the 8th, preventing Walstad from pushing to an extra end.
This was the second event of the season for Team Edin. In their first event at the Baden Masters, Edin only managed 1 win and 3 losses, but were able to see a huge improvement this weekend as the team took home their first big win of the season. Team Edin won this same event back in 2012.
