Flemming Rides 4-Win Day into Mesabi Playoffs
Halifax's Paul Flemming finished 4-0 in Curl Mesabi Classic round-robin after weather delayed arrival in Minnesota.
Snowstorms blowing across the American midwest saw delays and cancellations for several teams at the Curl Mesabi Classic in Eveleth, Minnesota.
Flemming, with his team of Scott Saccary and Ryan Abraham, managed to arrive a day late, and, following some rescheduling of games, played out their full schedule on Saturday.
In the morning draw (7), Flemming won 6-1 over Trent Skanes of St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador, went straight back onto the ice for draw 8 where they defeated Rich Ruohonen (St. Paul, MN) by the same 6-1 score.
After a break, Flemming faced Robert Desjardins of Quebec City in draw 10, winning 4-2, then finished off the round-robin in draw 11 with a 7-2 win over Cade Hebert of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Flemming faces Ruohonen in a rematch in the quarterfinals in the 8-team single knockout playoff bracket.
Scott Dunnam of Philadelphia plays Sam Strouse of Bemidji, Minnesota, while Duluth's Korey Dropkin plays Daryl Sobering of Denver on the same side of the bracket. Chaska's Daniel Casper plays Trevor Bonot of Thunder Bay, Ontario, in the other quarterfinals match.
