Hasselborg's "All in the Family" Undefeated into Playoffs
Sweden's Anna Hasselborg (photo: Anil Mungal, GSOC) finishes round-robin play behind a large supportive family entourage, will face Scotland's Rebecca Morrison in Saturday's quarterfinals.
Hasselborg with Sara McManus at third, Agnes Knochenhauer and Sofia Mabergs on the front end defeated Winnipeg's Jennifer Jones 7-5 to finish the HearingLife Tour Challenge round-robin at 4-0. Hasselborg opened scoring stealing two in the first end, then added three more in the third end for a 5-1 lead. Jones made it close with two in the fourth end and two more in the sixth end, but was run out of rocks in the eighth end.
In their opening game, Hasselborg defeated Stefania Constantini of Italy, 8-4, then won 6-5 against Canada's Kerri Einarson and 5-4 against Clancy Grandy (Vancouver, BC).
Hasselborg is set to face the Scottish side, skipped by Rebecca Morrison, who finished 2-2 in the round-robin. Morrison started strong with wins over Japan's Satsuki Fujisawa (7-1) and Isabella Wrana (5-4), but backed into the playoffs with two losses, 7-6 to Norway's Marianne Roervik and 7-3 to Tabitha Peterson of the United States.
Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni plays Winnipeg's Jennifer Jones on the same half of the 8-team single knockout championship bracket, while Korea's Eunji Gim plays Winnipeg's Kaitlyn Lawes and Constantini takes on Einarson in the other two quarterfinals.
Ottawa's Rachel Homan finished 2-2 but was last in shootout among four teams tied for 6th place overall.
