Inglis Advances to Grand Slam Tier 2 Semifinals
Danielle Inglis (photo: Michael Burns, Curling Canada) snuck into the playoffs on shootout, but played a big game against Japan's Sayaka Yoshimura advancing with a 7-6 win.
Inglis with Kira Brunton at third, Calissa Daly and Cassandra de Groot on the front end fell behind early as the Japanese-side scored two in the first end, then stole another point in the second end. Inglis got two points back in the third end, then added two more in the fifth end and stole two in the sixth end to lead 6-4.
Yoshimura scored two in the seventh end to even the score heading in the final end, though couldn't master the steal needed where Inglis scored a single point for the win.
Inglis improved to 16-11 on the season with the win while Yoshimura dropped to 41-13. Inglis is now into the final 4 of the HearingLife Tour Challenge Tier 2, where the champion will book their spot into the Co-op Canadian Open in Red Deer in January, along with $7,000 and $5,000 in spending money along with the free invitation.
Inglis sits 29th overall on the World Curling Federation World Team Rankings, earned enough points for her first trip to the second-tier Tour Challenge, winning the Summer Series in Saguenay, Quebec in August, as well as reaching quarterfinals at the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard. The team missed the playoffs in their last 3 events, with this week's result already breaking that streak.
Inglis finished 2-2 in thw round-robin point, scoring 76.6 cms, enough to edged out Delaney Strouse of Traverse City, Michigan by 2.5 cms for the last playoff spot. Each player threw 2 pre-game draws throughout the week with the lowest total counting in the total distance calculated.
In their opening game, Inglis lost 4-3 to Calgary's Kayla Skrlik, then responded with a 6-5 win over Strouse . Inglis won 6-3 against Michele Jaeggi (Bern, Switzerland). going on to lose 9-4 against Jessie Hunkin (Spruce Grove, Alta.) in their final qualifying round match.
Yoshimura entered the playoffs as the top seed, going undefeated through four games with wins over Hunkin, 7-5, Jaeggi, 6-4, Strouse, 9-3 and Skrlik, 5-3.

Kim defeated Sarah Anderson of Chaska, Minnesota in the quarterfinals, while Campbell scored two in the eighth end to win 7-6 over Ikue Kitazawa of Nagano, Japan and Dupont got two in the eighth end to win 6-5 over Christina Black of Halifax.
