Jones Carey'ed into Stu Sells Halifax Semifinals

Chelsea Carey (photo: Stan Fong, Hardline Curling) carries the Winnipeg-based foursome into the Stu Sells 1824 Halifax Classic semifinals where they will meet Korea's Seungyoun Ha for a spot into the championship game. Carey filled in for Jennifer Jones this weekend, with Karlee Burgess at third, Emily Zacharias and Lauren Lenentine on the front end, in this the second event played together this season. Carey previously skipped the foursome into the final of the Saville Shootout in September. In the quarterfinals, Jones open the scoring against Vancouver's Clancy Grandy with two in the first end, then stole two more in the second end for the early 4-0 lead. Grandy got two back int he third end, but was unable to slow down Jones as they score three more in the fourth end en-route to an 8-3 win in six ends. In the other quarterfinals match, Italy's Stefania Constantini won 4-3 over Christina Black of Halifax, stealing a single point in the eigth end for the win. Ha and Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni received byes to the semifinals, where Ha and Jones will do battle while Tirizoni will take on Constantini. In their lone head-to-head match, Jones defeated Ha at the HearingLife Tour Challenge a couple weeks back, the event the Jones team went on to win. Jones features an 22-11 win loss record on the season while Ha comes into today's game with a 36-21 record. Jones finished 3-1 in the 15-team qualifying round. In their opening game, Jones defeated Katelyn Wasylkiw (Milton, ON) 8-6, then won 7-4 against Jessica Daigle (Halifax, NS) and 11-1 against Stacie Curtis (St. John's, NL). Jones went on to lose 6-2 against Constantini in their final qualifying round match, though it was enough to book their place into the money round.
