Fargo's Team Hodek opens the 2026-27 campaign this weekend at the Morris Curling Club, where the Icebreaker Challenge runs August 28-30 with a 10-team field playing a round-robin pool format for a $4,000 purse. The Asham-backed spiel has become a familiar early-season stop for competitive Manitoba teams, offering a first chance to sharpen timing and test lineups before the season gets going in earnest - and the Dawgs will have something to test, having added Ethan Sampson to the roster for the new season.
The team bills Sampson as a day-one addition rather than a newcomer, and the history backs it up: he played alongside Tim Hodek at the 2017 USA Curling Junior National Championships in Fargo, on a rink that also featured Skyler Slusar and John Lindgren. Nine years on, the pair are back on the same sheet.
