Kelly rink opens as defending champs at Dave Jones Mayflower Cashspiel
Fredericton's Team Andrea Kelly is starting the season where last year's went right. Kelly released its 2026-27 schedule this week, a Maritime tour across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and P.E.I. that opens at the Dave Jones Stanhope Simpson Insurance Mayflower Cashspiel in Halifax, an event Kelly won a year ago in the team's first season back together.
Kelly, Jennifer Fenwick, Erin Carmody and Katie Vandenborre return unchanged, and there's plenty of Mayflower history in the lineup beyond the title defence. Carmody has won this event before as third for Jill Brothers, and Vandenborre, who was Kelly's lead on the 2023 provincial championship team, played out of Nova Scotia for a season before rejoining. Fenwick brings the deepest tour credentials of the group, peaking at sixth in the CTRS with Saskatchewan's Team Silvernagle in 2021-22 across a career that also took her to British Columbia before she returned home to Rothesay.
The skip's motivation is obvious. Kelly has 13 Scotties appearances, including two as vice for Krista McCarville in Northern Ontario, but her return to New Brunswick last winter ended one game short: after running the table through the A and B events at provincials, she lost the final to Mélodie Forsythe. The Dave Jones is the first step toward a 14th trip, and the triple-knockout format at the Mayflower has been kind to Kelly before.
