Zardini Lacedelli books Grand Slam ticket through Euro Super Series
Italy's Giulia Zardini Lacedelli book their spot at the GSOC Invitational, the first stop of the 2026-27 Grand Slam of Curling season, after a semifinal run at the Euro Super Series in Stirling, Scotland.
The Euro Super Series served as a Grand Slam satellite event this season, with the highest-ranked non-qualified team on each side earning a berth in Victoria. With every finalist already holding an invitation, the women's berth went to Zardini Lacedelli as the higher-ranked semifinalist, while Stefano Spiller claimed the men's berth by the same route.
Zardini Lacedelli's week ended against Switzerland's Alina Pätz, who edged the Italians 6-3 in the semifinal before going on to win the title.
The result is an early statement for a lineup that only came together this spring. Zardini Lacedelli moved from vice to skip, joined by Elena Mathis, Marta Lo Deserto and Rachele Scalesse. Zardini Lacedelli, Mathis and Lo Deserto previously played together on Stefania Constantini's team, which won European silver in 2023-24, finished fourth at the world championship and cracked the top 10 in the world rankings.
The GSOC Invitational runs Oct. 13-18 at Victoria's Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, with the remaining satellite berths coming from the AMJ Shorty Jenkins Classic, Karuizawa International and Prestige Hotels & Resorts Curling Classic.
