Schwaller heading for Canada after Scottish Finals finish
Xenia Schwaller's reigning world champions came within one game of a perfect start to the 2026-27 season. The Zurich rink won all six games through the round robin and playoffs at the Euro Super Series in Stirling, Scotland, before dropping an 8-5 decision to Alina Paetz in Sunday's final.
Paetz, skipping her own team for the first time following Silvana Tirinzoni's retirement, went 3-1 in the preliminary round and beat Corrie Hürlimann and Giulia Zardini Lacedelli to reach the championship game.
Schwaller, Selina Gafner, Fabienne Rieder and Selina Rychiger were in the field with plenty at stake: the event doubled this year as the first Grand Slam satellite stop, and the team came in ranked among the top rinks in the world after their 13-straight-win run to world championship gold in Calgary in March. Coach John Epping made the trip to Scotland, and the team called it a strong first event with plenty to build on.
